Boulder of gneiss in Mansfield, CT.
REGRETS
The Connecticut State Museum of Natural History, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the University of Connecticut have been very supportive of this effort, but have been unable (owing to other and pre-existing mandated priorities) to provide technical or adminstrative support. After limping along with the occasional work study student (who come and go), the coordinator, Robert M. Thorson, came to the concusion that he cannot maintain membership lists and address files. What this means is that the SWI will no longer keep track of members and send list serves. What it will do is list periodic announcements on its NEWS link.
This is not to say that the SWI has been unsuccessful. In fact, the growing importance of stone wall conservation, even in the land of steady habits (Connecticut, which has a stone wall on its new quarter) has paralleled this effort.
The coordinator will happily continue responding to any queries for information and referral.
