PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The alternative to class enrichment is a professional development program, usually taking the form of a workshop.

TEACHER WORKSHOPS

These are flexible; whatever a school system might request. This works well in outdoor field trips (should there be walls nearby that teachers could bring students to later), or as in-house workshops. I always bring a handouts and copies of my books to make them available. Basic topics include:

• Overview of Stone Walls including history and landscape ecology: (Resource is the book Stone by Stone)
• Clues and Techniques for interpreting stone walls. (Resource is the book Exploring Stone Walls)
• Enhancing classroom use of Stone Wall Secrets
